Eugene, Oregon is the second largest city in its state and home to the University of Oregon. Nestled in the south end of the famed Willamette Valley, the community is endowed with abundant natural resources (the city includes and is surrounded by buttes and high hills, and boasts two rivers that run through its center) that they work hard to conserve and maintain, garnering the city a reputation for both great natural beauty and citizen activism. It is known by a number of monikers, including “The Emerald City,” “A Great City for the Arts & Outdoors,” and “Track Town, USA” (due to its long, close association with track & field, the running culture and the Nike Corporation, which was founded in Eugene).

This pretty city is known for its recreational opportunities (bicycling, rafting and kayaking, as well as its association with running), its vibrant arts community, world-class cultural events hosted by the city and the university, and a sometimes quirky, sometimes elegant community personality.

At Senior Summer School, we’ll explore all that this engaging, active community has to offer, from its magnificent natural resources to its history of activism, to its full spectrum of fine and performing arts. We’ll stay in The Eugene Hilton Hotel & Conference Center, ideally situated in the heart of downtown Eugene, Oregon. Located just minutes away from the University of Oregon campus, the Huit Center for Performing Arts, and the 5th Street Public Market, the hotel is steps away from shopping, restaurants, and art galleries, and close to Skinner Butte and Alton Baker Parks, with miles of biking and running trails along the Willamette River.
