    Listed below are details about the sightseeing trips, included and optional, in the 2012 Eugene session. The optional trips will have an additional fee- to be determined at a later date.

    A couple of months prior to your session you will receive a packet of information that will include; lecture titles, all sightseeing trip descriptions, dates, and prices.

    Registered participants are required to fill out the trip sign-up form indicating all trips (free or additional) that they will be attending so Senior Summer School may plan transportation accordingly. The sign-up form will need to be returned to Senior Summer School prior to arrival (due date will be indicated) along with optional trip payment.

    * Senior Summer School reserves the right to adjust any trip details without notice. Final schedules will be distributed upon arrival of program. Minimum number of participants required for select trips.

     Included:

    Walking Campus Tour

    • Explore the University of Oregon campus with a guided walking tour. We will learn about U of O’s art and history museums, galleries, film, dance, writing and theater programs and laboratories — discovering how U of O provides a world of both professional and creative experiences.

    Eugene School of Glass

    • The Eugene School of Glass is offering us a demonstration of their amazing glass blowing techniques from professional glass artists. Glass has been a medium for artisans for thousands of year and responds to changes in heat and atmosphere, allowing artisans to create beautiful artwork.
    Cultural & Natural History Museum & Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art
    •  Located on the University of Oregon Campus and established in 1936 this unique museum showcases exhibits and paleontological collections which contain fossils from all continents, the anthropology collections spanning more than 14,000 years, and ethnographic objects from around the world.
    • We will then venture to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, a premier Pacific Northwest visual arts center founded in 1933, featuring engaging exhibitions and significant collections of historic and contemporary art.  We will learn why their mission is to be the finest university art museum in the world, offering an array of collections and vast displays of international artwork. Also, we may enjoy their other amenities, such as Marché Museum Café and Precious Cargo – The Museum Store.

    Hult Center of Performing Arts

    • Enjoy Gallery Insights, an inside tour of regional artwork in Jacobs Gallery, located within the Hult Center. Also, be sure to notice the architecturally incorporated art throughout the inside and outside of the center. The Hult Center of Performing Arts proves why Eugene is a world class city for the arts and outdoors.

    Farmer’s Market

    • The Eugene Farmer’s Market is an eclectic assortment of musicians, art, food and produce located right across the street from the Hilton.  You can walk over and spend a few hours this morning to browse and buy at your leisure. It was the first public market in Oregon tracing back to 1915 and is now comprised of nearly 160 growers and producers.

    A Day in Florence and More

    • You don’t want to miss this day! We’ll begin our day bright and early for the most popular adventure in all of Oregon.  We will depart the Hilton Hotel in the morning and enjoy a scenic leisurely drive west to Florence on the Oregon coast.  We’ll head to Florence for lunch on the bay and a little shopping.  Be sure to try Oregon’s famous Clam Chowder!  After lunch we will take a short drive south to Sandland Adventures where we will enjoy a scenic and adventurous dune buggy ride on the sand dunes! You will experience breathtaking views of the famous Oregon dunes and the Oregon coast that you would otherwise not be able to experience.
