• San Diego Sightseeing Trips

    Listed below are details about the sightseeing trips, included and optional, in the 2012 San Diego session. The optional trips will have an additional fee- to be determined at a later date.

    A couple of months prior to your session you will receive a packet of information that will include; lecture titles, all sightseeing trip descriptions, dates, and prices.

    Registered participants are required to fill out the trip sign-up form indicating all trips (free or additional) that they will be attending so Senior Summer School may plan transportation accordingly. The sign-up form will need to be returned to Senior Summer School prior to arrival (due date will be indicated) along with optional trip payment.

    * Senior Summer School reserves the right to adjust any trip details without notice. Final schedules will be distributed upon arrival of program. Minimum number of participants required for select trips.

    Welcome to San Diego Tour

    • Explore your new surroundings on a guided bus tour of San Diego’s “Hot Spots.” See Old Town’s unique boutiques, check out San Diego’s downtown playground in the Gaslamp District and stop for lunch in San Diego’s “Jewel” La Jolla. (Lunch is on your own) We will also visit the town of Coronado, the beach front Hotel del Coronado, beautiful San Diego Harbor, yacht- filled Shelter Island and the state park. At the end of our day we will stop at Liberty Station where you can pick up any grocery items you’d like.

     Sunday in Balboa Park

    • You have the entire day to spend strolling amid the 14 museums, art galleries, and gardens. You can choose the museums of your choice or just wander the gardens, find a park bench and enjoy people watching or reading a book! Museum entry fees are on your own. Some museums are free. You will be delighted by the lush beauty this remarkable park has to offer. Balboa Park was recently recognized as the best urban park in America. There is a tram that circles every 15 minutes to help you get from one museum to another. There are several different restaurants to choose from in the park. At 2:00, you won’t want to miss the Spreckel’s organ concert. Built for the World’s Fair in 1915, John Spreckels, (the father of modern San Diego) built a stunning, one-of-a-kind, outdoor pipe concert organ capable of playing the full range of musical masterworks that can be heard 3 miles away! The City of San Diego and the Spreckel’s Organ Society sponsor a different internationally known organist each week. The world famous San Diego Zoo resides in the same park so we can drop you off to experience this treasure, if that’s your preference for the day.

    Historical Old Town

    • We’ll enjoy museum quality art and sculpture, as well haggling with the street vendors as you stroll through Old Town with all its history and charm. Your senses will be indulged by the vibrant beauty of the brightly colored flowers, the intoxicating scent of all the restaurants, the pulsating sound of the street musicians and you won’t want to miss the jumbo margaritas! This cultural and historic area is a virtual mecca for shopping, dining and FUN!

    Harbor Cruise and Seaport Village

    • This deluxe two-hour harbor tour covers it all: Harbor and Shelter Islands, Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument, North Island Naval Air Station, the submarine base, and the Coronado Bridge. See San Diego from a unique perspective and enjoy a lovely and relaxing morning on the bay—then we’re off to Seaport Village. You will have about two hours after the cruise to eat lunch or visit the shops at Seaport Village.It combines shopping, dining, fun and great views of San Diego Bay. Take a step back in time to a setting of charming, turn-of-the-century architecture, winding paths and trickling fountains surrounded by the city’s best sightseeing and shopping. Combine live music, street performers, horse-drawn carriages and an 1890’s carousel, and you’ve got a memorable day by the bay.

    The USS Midway Museum

    • Explore over 60 exhibits and 25 restored aircrafts while taking this historical tour on the USS Midway sea craft. The USS Midway was responsible for saving over 3,000 refugees in 1975 during Operation Frequent Wind and today stands to honor the young men and women who once served upon America’s longest serving aircraft carrier.

    Seabreeze Organic Farm

    • Enjoy an educational organic food tour on the Seabreeze Organic Farm. You will learn about innovative growing techniques and even discover how to distinguish edible flowers! Not only will you experience fresh, nutritional and chemical free produce, but the organic farm also has beautiful scenery and farm animals to observe during your tour.
